Our Story

A passion for shade plants that started with a single pot

What began as a small collection of hostas in a backyard pot has grown into one of the Cape's most beloved destinations for shade garden enthusiasts. Pat's Hosta Nursery was born from a simple love of the way hostas transform a shady corner into something magical.

Today, our nursery is home to hundreds of hosta varieties — from tiny dwarf types that fit in a teacup to towering giants that make a statement. We also carry a carefully selected range of shade perennials, ferns, and seasonal color to help you build a garden that's beautiful from spring through fall.

Whether you're looking for a rare find or a tried-and-true favorite, we're here to help you pick the perfect plant for your space, your soil, and your style. No pressure, no judgment — just good plants and good conversation.

Growing Tips

Keep your hostas happy all season

Hostas are remarkably easy to grow, but a few simple tips go a long way toward keeping them looking their best.

Light Matters

Most hostas prefer partial to full shade, though some variegated types tolerate morning sun. Avoid hot afternoon sun, which scorches leaves.

Water Wisely

Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water at the base to avoid wetting foliage, and mulch around plants to retain moisture.

Watch for Slugs

Slugs are hostas' biggest enemy. Use organic slug bait, copper tape around containers, or hand-pick at dusk to keep damage to a minimum.

Divide & Rejuvenate

Every few years, dig up and divide overgrown clumps in early spring. This refreshes the plant and gives you free divisions to share or sell.

Have a question about your hostas? Bring them to us — we're happy to help you troubleshoot, identify, or choose the right plant for the right spot.
